Discovering MTR Beyond the Ready-to-Cook Packs
Whenever someone mentions MTR, the first thing that comes to mind is their famous ready-to-cook mixes sitting proudly on supermarket shelves. From rava idli to upma, MTR has been a household name for years. So, discovering that they also run restaurants came as a complete surprise to me.
A few days ago, while visiting Bhartiya Mall of Bengaluru, I spotted an MTR restaurant on the ground floor and instantly decided to give it a try.
A Busy Sunday Breakfast Spot
We visited on a Sunday morning, which is usually the ultimate test for any breakfast place. The restaurant was completely packed — always a good sign when it comes to South Indian food. Despite the crowd, the place was impressively clean, organized, and had a warm, welcoming vibe.
The aroma of freshly brewed filter coffee and crispy dosas filled the air, making the wait absolutely worth it.
Breakfast Done Right
The menu offered a fantastic variety of classic South Indian breakfast dishes. We ordered:
Masala Dosa
Podi Dosa
Idli
Wada
Dahi Wada
Every single dish arrived fresh, hot, and perfectly cooked. The dosas were crisp with flavorful fillings, the idlis were soft and fluffy, and the wada had that ideal crunchy-outside-soft-inside texture.
The dahi wada, in particular, stood out for its balance of sweetness, spice, and creamy curd.
Service That Keeps Things Moving
Even though the restaurant was operating at full capacity, the service was surprisingly quick and efficient. The staff handled the rush calmly, and we never felt ignored or delayed.
That kind of smooth service during peak breakfast hours definitely deserves appreciation.
Stories on the Walls
One of the most unique parts of the restaurant was its décor. The walls weren’t just decorative — they narrated stories about the history and origins of iconic South Indian dishes and beverages.
I especially loved reading about the science and precision behind the perfect froth on traditional filter coffee. What made it even more impressive was that every filter coffee we ordered actually lived up to that standard — rich, aromatic, and topped with beautifully crafted froth.
It’s these thoughtful little details that elevate a meal from ordinary to memorable.
Final Verdict
What started as a casual breakfast stop turned into a genuinely delightful culinary experience. MTR is clearly much more than just a packaged food brand — it’s a place that celebrates South Indian food traditions with authenticity and care.
If you’re in Bengaluru and craving a hearty South Indian breakfast, this hidden gem inside Bhartiya Mall is definitely worth visiting.
